Cpap
We carry the following types of masks: Full Face, Nasal Mask, and Pillow Mask
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) masks and headgear come in many styles and sizes to comfortably treat your sleep apnea. Everyone has different needs, preferences and face shapes, and sometimes you will need to try different mask styles before you find the one that works the best for you. There are 3 main types of masks:
1. FULL FACE MASK: These masks cover both your nose and your mouth. We recommend this to anyone who breathes with their mouth open, or anyone who has frequent problems with allergies and nasal congestion.
Likely facts: Your doctor has prescribed a high air pressure setting You move around a lot in your sleep These masks fit up inside your nostrils and are the smallest and most minimal of the 3 mask styles. We recommend this style to CPAP users experiencing skin irritation, since they have the least amount of contact with your face. Likely facts: You have nasal obstruction or congestion that makes breathing through your nose difficult You breathe through your mouth at night despite a month of trying a nasal mask or nasal pillow interface combined with a heated humidity feature or chin strap or both to keep your mouth closed.
2.-NASAL FACE MASK: These masks cover just your nose. Many CPAP users prefer this style because they are not as heavy as a full-face mask, while still having the stability of a cushion sea. Likely facts: You feel claustrophobic in masks that cover more of your face You want a full field of vision for reading or watching TV You have facial hair that interferes with other masks
3. PILLOW MASK: These masks fit up inside your nostrils and are the smallest and most minimal of the 3 mask styles. We recommend this style to CPAP users experiencing skin irritation, since they have the least amount of contact with your face.
There are some general recommendations that your doctor can help you with, however most masks have sizing templates to measure the size of your face and figure which size will fit you better.
Fitting a mask properly depends a great deal on your position. Facial muscles change when we lie down and relax even further once we’re asleep, so it’s always best to fit the mask while you’re in your sleeping position. Whether you sleep in a bed with no pillows or in a recliner, you should fit your mask in your usual sleeping position. If you experience difficulties in fitting your mask, please refer to your mask user guide for complete fitting instructions or discuss it with your care provider or equipment supplier.
I often remove it while I’m sleeping without realizing it. As each individual adapts to their therapy differently, there may be various contributing factors requiring a personalized approach. You should discuss this with your physician.
I have to strap it so tight to obtain a seal that it hurts. It’s important not to over-tighten your mask. Doing so it may be a sign that you have the wrong cushion size or an incorrectly adjusted forehead support. If you’re using a ResMed mask that has a MicroFit dial, it’s important to note that your clinician has set the dial at the optimal position and adjusting it significantly from that position may cause discomfort. If you experience difficulties in fitting your mask, please refer to your mask user guide for complete fitting instructions or discuss this with your medical equipment provider or physician.
Refer to the troubleshooting section in your mask user guide. Mask leak may indicate one of several things, including:
incorrect adjustment
incorrect assembly
incorrect size
your mask is worn out and needs replacement
Contact your doctor or equipment supplier to determine which of the above factors is interfering with the proper fitting of your mask.
ResMed is happy to offer fitting templates for many of our masks. Click your mask below to open a PDF file of the fitting template.
Please note the following when using these templates:
Read the directions on the template carefully before cutting and using them.
The fitting template for the Ultra Mirageâ„¢ full face mask is three-dimensional and not available online. Please contact ResMed Customer Service (800-424-0737) to request a fitting template.
Mask fitting templates should be used to aid in the fitting of masks. The use of these templates is not intended to replace the advice of a medical professional, sleep technician or equipment supplier.
Altering the size or dimensions of the original PDFs in any way may compromise the quality and accuracy of these template printouts. To avoid this problem, ensure you are printing at the actual size by turning off all page scaling in your printer settings. You may also refer to the ruler within the printout to ensure the printout is the accurate size.

Like any piece of clothing or accessory, your mask cushion becomes worn out over time. Mask and supply replacement is important for optimal comfort. You should change your cushion every 3 months.
The life of a mask cushion depends on various factors such as how much you use it, the oils from your skin, and how often you clean it. We highly recommend inspecting your mask according to the cleaning and maintenance routine outlined in your mask user guide. The user guide supplied with your mask contains guidelines to help you inspect, assess and replace your supplies. Check for small tears or pinholes and anything else that might cause a leak. Household pets (and children) have been known to damage cushions by playing with them, so it’s a good idea to keep your mask out of reach. Also, be sure not to leave your mask somewhere that receives direct sunlight during the day.
Because the timing and reasons for replacing your mask cushion greatly depends on your mask, it’s important to reference your mask user guide for specific details.
You may need to replace your headgear very 6 months, as it may become stretched or lose their elasticity, leading to overtightening and discomfort. Taking good care of your mask is an important step toward optimal performance. Similar to your mask cushion, please refer to your mask user guide for specific guidelines on inspecting and replacing your headgear.
You should also ask your equipment supplier about how often insurance will pay for new headgear and which services are available to best fit your needs, such as a personalized replacement plan and convenient home delivery.
To get the best possible therapy for your sleep apnea, it’s important to properly clean your CPAP equipment on a regular basis including mask, air tubing and humidifier tub. This cleaning should be done at least once a week.
- Your mask and tubing need a full bath at least once a week to keep it free of dust, bacteria, and germs.
- Clean the CPAP tubing, nasal mask, and headgear in a bathroom sink filled with warm water and a few drops of ammonia-free mild liquid dish detergent. Avoid using stronger cleaning products, as they may damage the mask or leave harmful residue. Swirl all parts around for about five minutes, rinse well and let air dry during the day. Hang the tubing over the shower rod, on a towel rack to ensure all the water drips out.
- The mask and headgear can be air-dried on a towel or hung on a hook or hanger.
- You should also wipe down your CPAP machine with a clean damp cloth to remove any dust. Ensure the unit is unplugged. The towel shouldn’t be too damp or wet, as water could get into the machine.
- Do not wash your machine’s white filter, if one is present—those are disposable and should be replaced every two weeks.
- If your CPAP has a humidifier water tub, that also needs to be cleaned weekly. Empty any remaining water and then wash the water tub in the sink with warm soapy water. Rinse well and drain out as much of the water as possible. Let the chamber air-dry before placing it back into the CPAP unit.
- Every other week, you should disinfect the humidifier water tub. Do that by soaking it in a solution of one-part vinegar to five parts water for 30 minutes, thoroughly rinsing with water and let the chamber air-dry before placing it back into the CPAP unit. Keep it clean by using only distilled water when using machine to prevent mineral deposits that can build up and cause damage to your machine.
Along with proper cpap cleaning, it is recommended that you replace your mask’s cushions/pillows every month, complete mask and tubing every 3 months, filter every 2 weeks and finally your water chamber every 6 months. Please contact American HomeCare Equipment to order your Cpap supply replacement parts.
For specific instructions on cleaning your mask, please refer to your mask user guide here. Additionally, you can purchase the So Clean 2, Sleep 8 or Virtuclean 2 , cleaning devices for your cpap supplies that kills 99.9% of CPAP germs and bacteria in your mask, hose and reservoir with no disassembly, no water, and no chemicals in order to enhance your home CPAP experience.
A CPAP machine is used to treat Sleep Apnea. It sends a constant flow of positive airway pressure to your throat to ensure that your airway stays open during sleep, effectively treating the spontaneous pauses in breath associated with sleep apnea.
Treating your sleep apnea will positively impact your life by increasing your energy, alertness, and overall happiness. Begin a healthier, happier life with sleep therapy.
BiPAP is used to treat Sleep Apnea as well as a CPAP machine. It refers to Bilevel or two-level positive airway pressure. Like CPAP, air is sent through a tube into a mask that fits over the nose. While CPAP generally delivers a single pressure, BiPAP delivers an inhale pressure and an exhale pressure.
Each is used for a special purpose.
BiPAP is sometimes used in patients who have pulmonary (lung) issues, like COPD. The difference in pressures helps to eliminate extra CO2 carbon dioxide gas from the body.
CPAP and BiPAP machines look similar. The attachments are the same. They both use the same CPAP mask and the same CPAP supplies.
